Plano estate sales run up to 72 hours, usually Thursday to Sunday, in the ZIP codes 75023, 75024, 75025, 75074, 75075, 75093 and 75094. Every advertised sale inside Plano city limits needs a free city permit, and many listings show only a ZIP code until the day before. For the sales on our map right now, see Plano garage and estate sales this weekend (updated nightly). This guide covers how to search, when to go, the city's sign and parking rules, sales tax at checkout and how to get big pieces home.
The short version
- Where: Plano is mostly in Collin County, with a small part in Denton County. Listings say "Plano, TX" plus a ZIP code, so search by ZIP.
- When: a Plano sale can't run more than 72 hours in a row. Most estate sales on our map open Thursday or Friday at 9 or 10 AM and close between 4 and 5 PM.
- Look it up officially: the City of Plano has its own search for permitted garage and estate sales, by date, ZIP and item.
- Park legally: never in an alley, not in front of any driveway, not within 15 feet of a hydrant or 30 feet of a stop sign.
- Pay: expect 8.25% sales tax at many company-run sales. Bring cash, a helper and measurements.
How to search for Plano estate sales
Plano is a city of about 290,000 people, mostly in Collin County with a small part in Denton County (City of Plano Planning Department 2023 Annual Report). Estate sale listings rarely use neighborhood names. They say "Plano, TX 75093" or "Plano, TX 75024", so the ZIP code is the best way to search. Plano's residential ZIP codes are 75023, 75024, 75025, 75074, 75075, 75093 and 75094.
- Watch for "address posted the day before." Many estate sale companies list only the city and ZIP code at first and post the street address the evening before or the morning of the sale. Check again then.
- Use the city's own search. Because Plano issues a permit for every advertised sale, the city's Garage Sale Search lets you look up permitted garage and estate sales by item category, date and ZIP code, with an interactive map. It only shows sales that have a permit, so it's a useful cross-check.
- A Plano mailing address isn't always Plano. ZIP codes don't follow city limits exactly, so a sale with a Plano address can sit in a neighboring town. For shoppers that rarely matters, but if you're hosting, the rules come from the city the house is actually in.
When Plano estate sales happen
The City of Plano treats an estate sale as a "garage/occasional sale," the same as a yard, rummage or sample sale. The ordinance sets the limits every sale has to fit inside (City of Plano garage/occasional sale information sheet):
- A permit is required for any sale advertised to the public, and it must be displayed at the sale the whole time.
- No sale can run longer than 72 consecutive hours, which in practice means three days at most.
- No more than three sales per address per calendar year, with at least five business days between sales.
So a Plano estate sale is a short window. In the week we wrote this, the estate sales on our Plano page ran Thursday to Saturday or Friday to Sunday, opening at 9 or 10 AM and closing between 4 and 5 PM. A few habits help:
- Opening morning is when furniture, art, jewelry and anything underpriced goes. At a big sale, expect a line and a limit on how many shoppers are inside at once.
- The last day is when many companies mark prices down, often by a set percentage. It isn't universal, so read the listing.
- Warehouse sales also show up in Plano. These are held in a warehouse or commercial unit instead of a house, and the listing will say so. Check the hours, since they don't always follow the Thursday-to-Sunday pattern.
What turns up at Plano sales
Every house is different, but the listings on our map give a fair idea. For Oct. 29-Nov. 1, 2026, the Plano estate sales on our map advertised mid-century modern furniture, sterling silver, china, crystal and art in 75023; furniture, rugs, lamps, glassware and holiday decor in 75024; dining furniture, appliances, tools and kitchenware in 75075; and a warehouse sale of furniture, antiques and jewelry in 75093. Read the item list and look at the photos before you drive, and bring a list of measurements for anything big. Signs: why you may not see one on the corner
Plano keeps sale signs off public property. Signs can go only on the host's own yard or a neighbor's yard with permission, and not between the sidewalk and the street, on medians or street corners, on the grass next to the curb, by screening walls or at subdivision entrances. Signs can be no bigger than 8 square feet and have to come down within 12 hours after the sale (City of Plano). In short, don't count on arrow signs at the main road. Navigate by the address, or by the map pin on our sale pages.
Parking at a Plano estate sale
If the house backs onto an alley, it's tempting to pull in behind it. Don't. The City of Plano's garage sale sheet notes that city ordinance prohibits parking in alleyways. On the street, Texas law applies. Except to briefly pick up or drop off a passenger, you can't stand or park (Texas Transportation Code § 545.302):
- in front of a public or private driveway, including the neighbors',
- within 15 feet of a fire hydrant,
- within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection,
- within 30 feet before a stop sign, yield sign or traffic signal at the side of the road.
You also can't park on a sidewalk or double-park. Follow the host's parking notes, stay off lawns, and on a busy morning park around the corner and walk.
Paying and getting it home
- Sales tax. Plano's combined rate is 8.25%: the 6.25% state rate, 1% for the city and 1% for the Dallas MTA transit authority, in both the Collin County and Denton County parts of the city (Texas Comptroller city rates; transit rates). Many company-run estate sales add it at checkout.
- Ask how they take payment. Many companies take cards and payment apps, but some are cash-only or add a card fee. Bring some cash either way.
- Measure first. Write down the size of the wall, doorway or truck bed you're working with.
- Ask about pickup. Most sales want large items gone by the end of the last day. Since a Plano sale can't run past 72 hours, ask what time you need to be back.
- Bring a helper and straps. Sale staff often can't carry furniture to your car.
Plan a morning route
